$15/general, $10/seniors, $5/students. This event is part of the Stephen Parsons Music Series.
The one-act parody opera by Carl Blum features music of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and others re-worked into the tale of two orphaned nieces and the marriage quest of a ship's captain.
The original German 1817 libretto has been updated and translated by Byron Nilsson, who is also the stage director. This production features two former Glimmerglass Festival young artists: Yvonne Trobe, soprano and Joelle Lachance, mezzo-soprano along with Ohio Light Opera baritone Vince Gover.
The pit orchestra consists of flute, violin, guitar and piano (it's the original orchestration, Carl Blum was a fine guitarist). All three singers are veterans of Ohio Light Opera, and Trobe and Lachance are also former Glimmerglass Festival young artists. Mr. Gover is also a composer. His one act pandemic operetta Lend Me a Roll has been viewed thousands of times on YouTube.
The singers will be accompanied by Musicians of Ma'alwyck.
Musicians of Ma'alwyck have a long association with opera revival. In 2009 the ensemble reconstructed George Washington's favorite opera The Poor Soldier and paired with Glimmerglass Opera to present a sold out series of performances that drew national attention. The ensemble is in residence at the Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site, and has been featured on NPR, PBS and other broadcast media.
