On Friday, September 2nd, The Strand Theatre is set to present a local songwriter round! Featuring the talents of Lucas Garrett, playing in support of his upcoming record, Reaching Through Dreams, Angelina Valente, and two other acts yet to be announced, it is sure to make for a special, family-friendly event. Those in attendance will be welcomed to a night of stories and song, as music fills the iridescent theater hall.
Lucas Garrett has played professionally for over nine years. In this time, he has incorporated his idiosyncratic vocal stylings with an unusual blend of progressive rock, folk, new wave, and indie to create a unique sound that audiences enjoy time and time again. In a short amount of time, Lucas has surely gained attention, releasing his debut, Evening's Come, But it's Not Dark (2017), Love is Better (2019), and Familiar Floors (2020).
Now, with his upcoming album, Reaching Through Dreams, slated for digital release on September 16th, Garrett explores the vulnerable: the acceptance of love in his life, the anxiety that comes from it, and the path forward. Garrett, armed with a "rumbling baritone," and songs that are "sneaky with unexpected turns and inventive instrumentation," (Amy Biancolli, Times Union, 2019), has found people of all ages enjoying his music; on and off the stage.
Angelina Valente grew up in Galway, NY where she developed a love for performing at a very young age. She attended Rider University where she graduated with a BFA in Musical Theatre. It was there that she developed a love for writing music. With music defined as “[crisp], nostalgic, bedroom folk,” Angelina’s soft piano and strong voice, complete with her honest lyrics make you want to curl up with a warm cup of tea. Her qualities give you that feeling of putting on your favorite album, closing your eyes, and falling deeply into the moment.
