About: Sunnyland Revisited

This is actually a story of two bands, which had its start in South Glens Falls way back in 1977. That was when Phil Bacon (guitar, vocals), Tony Bouchér (drums) and Dugald Sturges (keyboards, vocals) started a band. Together with Rich Virgil (bass) and Shelley Bacon (vocals), performing under the name “The Stardusters” (in the Glens Falls Post Star billed as “a local band”) they opened the very first South High Marathon Dance in 1978. That afternoon they played a set of covers ranging from Chicago’s “25 or 6 to 4” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” to David Bowie’s “Suffragette City” and “Changes”.

Not being immune to changes themselves, the group dispersed after graduation. In Maine, Dugald formed a new band, “The Sunnyland Farmboys”, with Ron Van Duzer (violin, mandolin) and the late Brian Leeman (percussion). Billing their style as “progressive punk rhythm and bluegrass”, they had various gigs downeast and appeared on “Stacey’s Country Jamboree” on WVII-TV, Bangor.

Fast forward to May, 2019: On the 40th anniversary of their performance at the Bumstock Festival in Orono, ME, with Phil on guitar and Larry Balestra on drums, Ron and Dugald held a reunion concert in Catskill, NY under the name “Sunnyland Revisited”. An evening which was well received, featuring their own renditions of songs from Hank Williams to Lou Reed to The Clash. This evening encouraged them to pick up again where they had left off so many years ago.

Since then, with the addition of Tony Bouchér, the two bands have fully merged and have focused on writing and recording their own original material. The first three singles by “Sunnyland Revisited” were released in 2024 and are available on all major streaming platforms.
